Discord limit
Shrink images Discord will take.
Free Discord accounts stop at 20 MB. Shrinkcord brings larger JPEG, PNG, and WebP files down to 19.5 MB in your browser, and leaves smaller ones untouched.
Runs locally. Nothing is uploaded.
Drop images over 20 MB
JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Files already at or under 20 MB stay as they are.
How it works
Quality first, then dimensions
01
Drop the image
JPEG, PNG, or WebP. Several files run one at a time so the tab stays responsive.
02
Leave small files alone
Anything at or under 20 MB is returned unchanged. Only larger files are re-encoded.
03
Download and send
The result is 19.5 MB or under, named with -discord, ready for a free Discord upload.
Stays in the browser
The image is decoded on this device. Shrinkcord never receives the file.
Only files over 20 MB
The free Discord cap is the line. Smaller images are not recompressed.
19.5 MB cushion
Quality drops first. Dimensions shrink only if the file is still too big.
19.5 MB, so the file clears 20.
Discord measures the free cap as 20 MiB and checks that size before it compresses the upload. Half a megabyte of room is the insurance.
FAQ
Before you send it
Discord's free upload limit is 20 MB, and the developer changelog counts that as 20 MiB: 20 × 1024 × 1024 bytes. Shrinkcord stops at 19.5 MiB so a file that looks close to the line still clears it.
No. The file is decoded and re-encoded in this tab. It is not sent to a server, and nothing is stored.
JPEG, PNG, and WebP. GIF, HEIC, and video are left alone with an error so a different file type is not quietly flattened.
PNG is lossless, so a quality slider cannot shrink it. Shrinkcord flattens the image onto white and saves a JPEG. Transparency becomes white, and the row says so.
It is not modified. You can download the same file you dropped.
Discord checks the file size before its own compression. A result at or under 19.5 MiB is under the free 20 MiB cap. Nitro and server boosts allow larger files, but this tool is aimed at the free limit.
Get the image under the line.
Drop a file over 20 MB. Download one that Discord's free upload will accept.
